What are the Qualifications for Membership?

An applicant must believe in a Supreme Being. Freemasonry does not provide any further definition, the nature of that Being must be determined by the applicant himself.

How does one become a Freemason?

Usually by asking a Freemason. It is a general rule, in Korea as well as in most other countries, that a Freemason will not solicit men for membership.

Well mostly false… In the United States, the United Kingdom and most other jurisdictions, invitations to join are never issued by anyone ever. If you want to join you must ask. In a few parts of the world, particularly where masonry is subject to persecution from hostile regimes, it is indeed invite only. That being said, there is much more to joining than simply filling out an application. Just as anyone can apply (in most jurisdictions), anyone can also object thus forbidding your application.

Women can join a regular masonic lodge.

Freemasonry has always been an organization for men and it is a cornerstone of the fraternity. Although there are organizations that admit women and style themselves like the fraternity, they are not recognized by any regular Freemasons. This remains a universal constant among all recognized lodges in the world. There are sister organizations such as the Eastern Star that women can join however membership in such organizations does not make it’s members Freemasons.

These days you will more likely be held to an even higher standard as becoming a Freemason does not entitle you to special privileges but it does require you to set an example of excellence for others to follow.

In the 19th century a man named Leo Taxil wrote a fictional book about devil worshiping Freemasons as a hoax. It was a false accusation then and it is just as false now. This ignorance lives on even today. The mere notion that Freemasons are satanists is ridiculous. A real satanist would be offended by that idea. One of the cardinal teachings of satanism is to place oneself above all others. Of course this is incompatible with Freemasonry as we practice brotherly love, relief, charity and service to others.

The fraternity is definitely not a networking organization. Every once in a while a guy slips in that thinks otherwise and he is usually extremely disappointed. The lodge is not for exchanging business cards and you are not likely to benefit from it in that regard. If you are thinking of joining for that reason, save yourself and everyone else a whole lot of wasted time.

“The Craft” is a pagan, witchcraft or Wiccan reference.

We try to teach good men how to be better men through brotherly love, relief, charity and service to others. We teach these things through mysterious symbols and rituals that are hundreds of years old. We always have guests at every meeting who are interested in learning more about us and who help us in supporting local charities as well.

That is the reason Freemasonry has stood the test of time – because we draw our members from every race and every creed – Koreans included.

Freemasonry has been persecuted for years, and will continue to be for years to come. It’s a shame but something we have all come to accept. The conspiracy theorists say that we are only helping ourselves when the true purpose of our organization is to help others.

You are free to visit the Han Yang lodge as a guest. We usually have an open meal after the meeting, usually around 9 p.m.

No, it is not true. If someone who isn’t a Christian went into a church and saw people taking communion eating the “body of christ” and drinking the “blood of christ”, they would probably think it was very strange without understanding the context of it. The same applies for Freemasonry.

Actually in many parts of the world women can become Freemasons. Just not in Korea. However, I wouldn’t be surprised if one day a women’s Freemason group or even a co-ed group surfaced here.

Hello there,
1. Once you get your 3rd Degree, you are a Master Mason and can take an office and vote on lodge proceedings. Anything higher than the 3rd Degree is appendant and requires you to join other organizations. However, this is not expected nor is it necessary. The higher degrees are for educational purposes if you would like to gain more knowledge.
2. There is usually an application process involved where you come out and meet masons and get to know them. You need to find a mason who will propose you and sign your application. Then there is usually an interview process. The lodge votes on whether or not to make you a Freemason and then there is finally your initiation. On the day of your initiation you are expected to pay some money. How much money depends on the lodge, as different lodges can ask for different amounts of money.
3. After becoming a Master Mason you are expected to pay a yearly subscription fee. Again, the amount depends on the lodge. You can resign your membership at any time.

Depends on the brother really. If he’s a Christian we use the bible. If he’s Jewish, the Torah. Korans for Muslims, Teachings of Buddha for Buddhists, etc.

As Freemasons, we require candidates to express belief in God, but we also require vows of fidelity. It’s kind of like people swearing on the bible in court. We want to make sure they keep their promise.
The number 3 is very prevalent in many religions. We usually say that God has a “triune essence”, and although this can mean the holy trinity for Christians, it could mean the Trimurti or Tridevi for Hindus, the Three Jewels for Buddhists, the Three Pure Ones for Taoists, etc.

프리메이슨들만의 Ode가 있다고 들었습니다. 의식을 시작할떄 끝날때나 의식도중에 회원들끼리 서로 노래를 부르는것을 보았습니다. 그런데 저는 이상하게 노래에서 뭔가 인위적인 느낌이 든다고 느꼈습니다. 혹시 프리메이슨은 멜로디 리듬등을 포함해서 음악에도 비밀스러운 상징을 넣나요?
몇몇 프리메이슨 회원은 실제 대중음악에도 메이슨의 상징이 들어가있는 멜로디나 리듬 voice등을 미묘하게 첨가하는지 궁금합니다.
Masons usually have odes that they sing in lodge. Honestly though, the lodges in Korea don’t really adopt that practice unless the delegation from Hong Kong comes and performs our installation ceremonies for us. I guess it’s more of a British thing. When I joined Lodge Han Yang the master at that time always sang odes during the ceremonies, but nobody really continued doing that after he left.
As for pop music? That’s just more conspiracy stuff. Don’t worry about it. 🙂 I think the only really good example of somebody putting masonic symbolism into their music would be Mozart’s “The Magic Flute”.

You can find any of the rituals online. There’s no real secrets anymore. We just don’t say those secrets out loud to non-masons as a sign of trust towards our brothers.

There’s lots of rituals in many different languages. We even have it in Korean, actually. But Freemasonry is not popular enough with Koreans to have a Korean speaking lodge.. yet.

You know, a long time ago Masons were very secretive for a couple of reasons:
1. We believe in tolerance of other beliefs. The church did not like that.
2. We believe in equality. The government did not like that.
Now society has evolved to the point where equality and tolerance are very normal things, so the Freemasons don’t need to be so secretive anymore. However, in some communist countries and religious states the Freemasons are still persecuted because of the reasons listed above.
Hello I am 17 years old high school student living in Singapore. I am Korean and I’m here to study. Since I was young, I had many spiritual experiences and thoughts. I read various spiritual articles and stories to fulfil my heart’s desire to exit my life’s cycle.(going to school, having meal three times a day, hangout with friends during weekends and go back to school again…) I knew Freemason since 2012 by the internet articles. As many people say the articles were talking about Freemason’s rumor such as satanic rituals. I don’t know if it is real or not but I want to say that ‘I am always to KNOW , ACCEPT AND UNDERSTAND the reality’.
I’ve been to Singapore’s Freemason lodge. I just get in and ask an officer that I am here to join Freemason and I knew that I’m not a proper person to join Freemason because I’m not an adult yet and I can’t pay for the fees.
I will enroll the university in Seoul and I want to join Han-Yang lodge as soon as possible. Now, I’m still a high school student but I really want to receive some informations about Han-Yang lodge and Freemason. Thank you for reading 🙂

before. There I learned many masonry rituals, square and compass meaning(real mean), rough ashlar and perfect ashlar ancillary gnosism, kaballah, hermeticism and etc.

And I know that it has led to such a significant event in the French Revolution or the American Revolution. Is it true?
I had a Korean mason do the translating. I’m not sure about the French revolution, but the American revolution was during the enlightenment period, when the majority of leaders were deists. I’m sure Freemasonry had a little influence but let’s not get carried away into believing they are the ones who caused it.
